25/05 Moral : Kill For Food



A friend challenged me with a moral question – Would I kill and eat any sentient beings (animals, fish or insects) if I were stranded on an island. After some reflection, I replied “No” firmly. A little puzzled and disappointed, she probed further by asking, “Not even for survival's sake?” I answered “Yes” firmly. This time with disbelief and a hint of anger, she asked why.

In the stock market, you can clearly see delusion, greed and hatred rise and fall with the rise and fall of ever-changing numbers. In an online discussion forum hot in debate, you can clearly see the 3 roots of evil rise and fall with words instead. In meditation, you can clearly see the falling and levelling of the 3 evils with the rise of equanmity.

30/04 Projection : Existence



It has been a while since I last blogged. Can't really place my existence all this while. Well, if there's any real existence at all. I guess existence only exists when we have them labelled and constantly reviewed as memories, “Ohh, I did this last summer, and that last winter.”

08/01 Humaneness : Tsunamis Strike



While the tsunamis struck, the world was still recovering from Christmas party hangovers, still pretty much distracted by sensual indulgence and luxurious gift exchanges. It didn't take long for most of us to be jolted wide awake on how truly fragile and impermenant our lives can be. We felt only minor tremors in Singapore... It was the in-flooding of news on the scale of devastation that gave us unequalled “shock”-waves, disrupting our lives in some sense forever.
